Beginning in 2010, a state-of-the-art 18,500-seat Major League Soccer stadium will serve as Philadelphia Union’s home. As the catalyst for a spectacular $500 million waterfront revitalization project, the stadium is expected to "KickStart Chester" by bringing renewed life and vitality to a historic location in need of a spark. The City of Chester, in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, is an area that has most frequently been associated with recession and decline, but hope and pride is rapidly being restored. Public support from the State of Pennsylvania, Delaware County and the City of Chester reinforced private support for the mixed-use development, which is helping to drive a "renaissance on the river" in Chester.

The Delaware River waterfront will soon represent a gateway from old to new. Built at the foot of the Commodore Barry Bridge, the world-class soccer-specific stadium will function as the heart of an urban entertainment district. The stadium is ideally located just five miles south of the Philadelphia International Airport, with easy access to major roadways such as I-95, I-476, US-322 and PA-291. Off-ramps that are currently under construction will lead passengers directly from I-95 and US-322 to stadium parking facilities. Additionally, the Northeast Corridor Amtrak, Conrail and SEPTA rail lines run two train platforms within a short distance from the site.

The stadium's architecture provides breathtaking scenery, with all but the south end seats viewing the river and approximately 60% of capacity able to see both the water and bridge. The iconic backdrop will amplify the atmosphere in the stadium, producing an appropriately exhilarating setting for the Union. The stadium will be constructed with brick and natural stone, giving the building a traditional Philadelphia feel. The energy emanating from the stadium will spread throughout the development to the waterfront walking paths, dining, retail, entertainment, marina, residential and office. This electrifying urbanization will create a city within a city.
