The Union connection

Two schools out of seven with Union ties remain in NCAA race

Over the next month, 32 teams will fight to book a trip to Hoover Ala., the site of the 2012 NCAA men’s College Cup. Just two schools remain vying for a chance to make the Final Four at Regions Park and the Dec. 9 championship game (2 p.m., ESPNU).

Among those institutions, seven schools have players currently in the Union’s academy system. And while five of those schools, Elon, Lafayette, St. John’s, Michigan State and Virginia have all bowed out, Maryland and No. 3 ranked Georgetown are all still alive heading into the quarterfinal rounds courtesy of Union academy studs in a march for the title.
