So you probably heard the news.
If not, in conjunction with Major League Soccer, today we announced:

Pretty exciting stuff, especially for you guys that can finally plan vacation, family reunions, weddings around our schedule; know however this will only be the 34-match MLS regular season schedule, we will not be announcing any additional friendlies or U.S. Open Cup times.
But it is nice to have something to look forward too this week…
Monday night was “Soccer Night in Newtown,” the initiative created by Houston general manager Chris Canetti, to bring a night of hope to those affected by the horrific Dec. 14 school shooting in Newtown, Conn. We announced on New Year’s Eve that defenders Chris Albright and Raymon Gaddis (shown in the above picture) ventured up along with over 30 past and present soccer players to lend support. We found out this morning via Twitter that midfielder Michael Lahoud, also made the trek up to Newtown to lend a hand and represent the Union with his fellow teammates.
Lahoud posted this morning:
Heading up to Newtown, CT for a great event this afternoon with local legend @marcusgtracy. Looking forward to meeting the community.

FIFA streamed its Golden Ball awards and philadelphiaunion.com caught it just in time to watch the winners in the male and female categories. U.S. forward Abby Wambach beat out fellow American Alex Morgan and five-time winner in Brazil’s Marta. But the joy came from watching the men’s awards and we aren’t talking the polka dot suit jacket Lionel Messi sported. Messi, along with teammates Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo were up for the award and for the fourth straight year Messi took home the award ahead of La Liga – and what looked to be personal – rival Ronaldo. Watching Ronaldo bite his lip and force a smile was truly worth the wait. If you didn’t see it, this is the best copy we could find as FIFA didn’t post video on its site.
Couple of announcements…
