Great Time to be a Soccer Fan

PPL Park Opening, World Cup Make for Exciting Times

6

With the World Cup in full swing and the opening of PPL Park
just days away, there is no better time to be a soccer fan, especially a
Philadelphia soccer fan.

Over the past two weeks, the United States has captured the
excitement of the nation, and even the world, with their run into the knockout
stage of the World Cup.  In three
incredibly exciting games, the U.S. managed to overcome the odds and finish
first in Group C, ahead of heavily favored England.

On Saturday, the U.S. will look to surpass previous
expectations and advance to the quarterfinals with a win over Ghana. As
exciting as the first three games have been for the United States, this game
has the makings to be just as thrilling because both teams feel they have a
good opportunity to move on in the tournament.  With over two weeks still remaining until a World Cup
champion is crowned, there truly has never been a better time for soccer in the
United States.

And with the opening of PPL Park just two days away, life
couldn’t be much better for Philadelphia soccer fans. The Philadelphia Union
will look to add to the soccer excitement by opening up their new,
state-of-the-art stadium with a bang in front of an 18,500-person rowdy crowd
on Sunday.  With all of the
excitement and festivities swirling around the opening of PPL Park, a win over
the Seattle Sounders would be icing on the cake for the Union and its
supporters.

Many people doubted the desire for professional soccer in
Philadelphia.  Although there is a
large pool of youth players throughout the traditionally strong soccer region,
many people were uncertain if a professional soccer team would succeed in
Philadelphia. However, with season tickets sold out and the PPL Park opener
selling out in just five hours, Philadelphia is chomping at the bit as its team
prepares for Seattle on Sunday.

Simply put, there is no better time or place to be a soccer
fan.
