Wizards, Union Look For Momentum
Kansas City Wizards vs. Philadelphia Union at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
This is the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
What's at stake?
Momentum. This is the last match for both teams before taking a more than two-week more break from league action for the World Cup. Kansas City desperately need to break the winless streak that has wrecked their quick start, while Philadelphia are looking to build on a three-game stretch that included their first ever road victory. Either way, three points would be huge for two teams stuck at the bottom of the table in the east.
This one speaks for itself. This is the first match between the expansion Union and the Wizards, a Major League Soccer original. After kicking off the all-time series on Thursday night, these two teams will meet in Phildelphia at the newly-constructed PPL Park on Sept. 4.
Heroes & Villains
Sebastien Le Toux vs. Jimmy Conrad - Le Toux has been a revelation for manager Peter Nowak in his second season in MLS and first in Philadelphia. With five goals and three assists in 10 matches, the former Seattle Sounder and USL MVP has been one of the most productive players in the league this season. On the other hand, Conrad is one of the best pure defenders Le Toux will face in 2010, and he will make every touch, turn, pass, and scoring chance as difficult as possible.
Wizards attack vs. Chris Seitz - Seitz has been largely hit-or-miss this season despite a recent run of good form, his first as a full-time starter, but so has Kansas City’s attack. Seitz will have no problem with the long-range shots the Wizards have been relying on with little success recently, so the impetus is on the home team to create chances in the penalty area and force the young goalkeeper into some difficult decisions and tough situations.
Stat that makes you go “Hmm..."
The Union’s two victories this season have come by an identical 3-2 score line. Philadelphia took down D.C. United at home for its inaugural victory and knocked off Houston in Texas two weeks ago.
