Recap: Union, Orlando City draw 1-1 in Florida finale
Orlando, Fla. (February 18, 2012) - A late stoppage time goal by Orlando City’s Max Griffin erased a 1-0 Philadelphia Union lead, as the Union played Orlando to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at the Citrus Bowl. Defender Danny Califf headed in a free kick off a cross from Gabriel Gomez in the 27th minute to open the scoring.
Orlando nearly got on the board in the fifth minute when a miscue by the Union defense allowed Dennis Chin to take the game’s first shot on goal, but Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath was able to deflect the attempt away with his left hand. The Union quickly answered just five minutes later, but Jack McInerney’s chip shot sailed over the crossbar.

A Sheanon Williams foul in the box in the 21stminute gave Orlando City a penalty kick and their first chance to get on the board, but former New York Red Bulls midfielder John Rooney’s low shot to the bottom right corner was saved by a diving MacMath.
Philadelphia's Danny Mwanga was pulled down just outside the box in the 24th minute, resulting in a free kick by Gomez. Gomez found a leaping Califf, who headed home in the 27th minute to make it 1-0.
Both teams continued to pressure in the first half but neither could convert, preserving the 1-0 score going into the break.
Orlando City came out firing in the second half, putting pressure on substitute goalkeeper Chase Harrison. The Lions nearly scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute before Gabriel Farfan cleared the Union's line. Orlando nearly struck again in the 84th minute, but Michael Farfan was there to clear the ball away from danger.
Before the final whistle, Griffin, after nearly converting just minutes prior, broke through with only seconds to spare. Philip Borde crossed the ball into the box and Griffin, running into open space, put the ball into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.
