Union to host Rochester Rhinos May 29 in U.S. Open Cup third-round match
Chester, Pa. (May 23, 2012) – Philadelphia Union will host their first-ever Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game on Tuesday, May 29, 7:30 p.m., at PPL Park against the Rochester Rhinos (USL Pro). The Rhinos will head to PPL Park after beating the Brooklyn Italians 3-0 on Tuesday night in their second round match.
The Union are currently 0-2 in Open Cup matches, falling 4-2 on penalty kicks to D.C. United last season and 2-1 to the New York Red Bulls in 2010. The winner of this match will advance to the Fourth Round on June 5.
Tickets are on sale now HERE starting as low as $15. This game is not included in full season ticket packages but Union full season ticket holders are able to purchase their same seats for the match at a preferred season ticket holder price until Thursday, May 24 at 11:59 p.m. Those season tickets that are not purchased by season ticket holders by the end of Thursday, May 24 will be released to the general public for purchase. Individual tickets range in price from $15 for Supporters tickets to $30 for Midfield. Premium seating and suites are also available.
Groups of 15 or more will receive a $5 discount per ticket. To purchase group tickets call 877-21-UNION (877-218-6466), press 1 for Ticketing, and 1 for Group Sales.
Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase pre-paid parking for the match at a discounted rate of $10 per pass. This game is not included in season long parking passes for season ticket holders. Parking (one per order) and Stadium Club access are included with Manager’s Row, Field Side Tables, Field Level, and Club seats (one per order).
All Division I, II and III professional clubs are participating in the tournament proper for the first time ever. The Division I field includes all 16 U.S. based Major League Soccer teams, which is double the representation from the past five years and the first time since 2006 that all Division I teams are taking part.
The 99th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup includes a random selection process for determining home teams from the first round through the quarterfinals among clubs that have applied to host. The process, conducted by a coin flip, gives participating teams with venues meeting tournament standards an equal chance at hosting possible opponents for these rounds.
