Chester, Pa. (July 20, 2012) – Philadelphia Union have loaned rookie midfielders Greg Jordan and Jimmy McLaughlin to USL PRO affiliate Harrisburg City Islanders for the remainder of the City Islander’s season, the club announced today. Though Harrisburg’s season runs through the end of August, the Union can recall both Jordan and McLaughlin at any point.

“Both Greg and Jimmy are great young players and we feel that this is the best way to help them to continue to develop their skills and maintain their fitness all while helping our partners, the Harrisburg City Islanders, make a run at the playoffs,” said Philadelphia Union Team Manager John Hackworth.

Jordan, 22, was drafted 32nd overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by the Union. The former NSCAA All-American starred at Creighton University from 2008 to 2011, helping the Blue Jays to a NCAA semifinal appearance in his last year with the team. After suffering a torn ACL in his sophomore season, the 6-foot Illinois native showed great durability in his following two seasons, starting 42 matches over that span. Since joining the Union, Jordan has played in multiple Reserve League matches as well as Wednesday’s friendly against Aston Villa.

McLaughlin, 19, was signed by the Union on December 11, 2011 as the club’s second Homegrown Player. In his freshman and only season with Colgate University, he started all 22 games, a school record for a first-year player. A Union Academy graduate, McLaughlin has seen action in various Reserve League matches and with the First Team in exhibition matches against Reading United, Everton, Real Madrid and Aston Villa.

The Union and the Islanders became official partners in March 2010, providing Philadelphia with an option to loan players to Harrisburg for increased playing time. The partnership also resulted in the Union signing starting right back Sheanon Williams and goalkeeper Chase Harrison.

The City Islanders next home match is scheduled for Saturday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. against the Los Angeles Blues, while the Union travel to face Eastern Conference rival New York Red Bulls tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN.
