Philadelphia Union Honored With Governor’s Community ImPAct Award
Philadelphia Union has been honored with the Governor’s Community ImPACT Award for the Southeast Pennsylvania region, Pennsylvania Governor Corbett announced at a ceremony in Harrisburg yesterday. The Corbett administration created the awards initiative to honor businesses in Pennsylvania that are creating job opportunities and contributing to the state’s economy.
"It's an honor to receive this recognition of our work in the community,” said Nick Sakiewicz, CEO and operating partner of Keystone Sports & Entertainment. "We have always believed our project is about community and are committed to creating a different kind of professional sports organization that is deeply connected to its fans and the community in which we are a part of. This is a true honor."
In 2012, the Union launched the Philadelphia Union Foundation, which provides opportunities for children through the power of relationships to offer transformational change in the areas of education, community, health and recreation. Using soccer as a conduit for change, the Foundation reinforces the traditional family values of honesty, integrity, effort and accountability and aims to have a positive impact on children with respect to their character development, academic performance and physical well-being.
The ImPACT Awards recognized 50 companies from throughout the state in five categories: Jobs First, Community Impact, Small Business Impact, Entrepreneurial Impact and Export Impact. The awardees were chosen by an independent judging panel selected by the state’s partners, Team Pennsylvania Foundation and Journal Multimedia. Nominations for each award were provided by the Partnerships for Regional Economic Performance (PREP) network, the state’s regional economic development partners.
