USA-Ghana Sets Viewership Record

Despite a heartbreaking loss, Saturday’s telecast of the Ghana vs. USA FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match became the most watched men’s World Cup match in U.S. history.
 
ABC earned an 8.2 fast-national Nielsen rating and
14.9 million viewers. Additionally, the average number of viewers peaked during stoppage time (4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET) with 17.6 million viewers.
 
Univision also delivered the highest viewership ever for a U.S. World Cup match on the Spanish-language network, with
4.5 million viewers.
 
Overall, USA vs. Ghana delivered combined avgerage viewership of
19.4 million viewers, which is 5% higher than the 09-10 NFL regular season average viewership (18.4 million) and 7% higher than the 2010 NBA Finals (Games 1-7) average viewership (18.1 million).
