Chester, Pa. – Young Philadelphia Union fans will be able to hit the schoolyard with an exclusive item after next week’s visit of Columbus Crew when the Union and the American Red Cross team up for a special giveaway.
The first 5,000 children, under the age of 15, through the gates at PPL Park for Wednesday’s 8pm game will each receive a limited-edition drawstring bag, eye-catchingly designed in the shape of the Union’s famous blue and gold jersey.
The giveaway is part of the hugely successful partnership between the club and the charitable organization which will see the two joining forces for the return of the annual Union Blood Drive next month.
Due to overwhelming success last year, the Blood Drive has been extended to run from 6am until 4pm at the Stadium Club at PPL Park on both Saturday 22nd September and Saturday 29th September, as Union fans add to figures which equate to almost 2,500 lives saved across both previous events.
All presenting donors at the Union Blood Drive will receive a commemorative, limited edition scarf and T-shirt, as well as a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in PA and NJ), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Donors are asked to bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID.
All blood types are needed, but there is a particular need for people with negative blood types – O-negative, A-negative and B-negative - to give blood now.
Space will be limited and donors must register in advance by clicking here or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
