After racking up a second-place finish in their first tournament in Brazil, the U-12 Philadelphia Union Academy squad reached battled tough opposition to reach the semifinals of the Iber Cup Porto Alegre.
Finishing second in the first group stage, Kleberson's U-12 team took down three of their four Super Group opponents by a 18-4 margin.
Facing a busy Saturday that featured three matches in succession, the U-12s were up to the task and fought until the end beginning the day with a 4-1 victory over R.a.S.a. de Los Altos of Venezuela. Later that afternoon the Boys in Blue scored twice and held on for a 2-1 victory over Avai FC but fell an hour later to hometown favorite Gremio Fbpa by a 1-0 scoreline.
Combining for 53 goals in 11 matches overall, the Union were led in the tournament by Kellan Lablanc and Jordan Griffin's 11 goals each in the tournament.
