CHESTER, Pa. (June 14, 2019) – Bethlehem Steel FC (3-7-4) looks to regain momentum when it hosts Saint Louis FC (5-2-4) at La Salle University’s McCarthy Stadium this Saturday night.
The Steel have been in a rough run of form lately, but Head Coach Brendan Burke said that he thought his side gave decent account of themselves for most of the club’s last match against Nashville SC. After going ahead, Steel gave up four second-half goals to the future MLS side.
Saint Louis FC is a very strong team defensively, not just due to individual performances, but through a unified and connected team defense. The club has only given up eight goals through 11 matches in league play this year and recently knocked Chicago Fire out of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup while allowing only one goal to the MLS side. With the Open Cup resuming in the middle of next week, the Steel will hope to see a lighter Saint Louis side with the club emphasizing their Open Cup run.
These two sides have only met twice before and the Steel have yet to lose to the Missouri-based opponent. However, that 1-0-1 all-time record will mean little since these clubs haven’t met since 2017. Despite having fallen off since their strong start in league play at the beginning of the season, Saint Louis is a giant that needs to be taken seriously.
