Dave McKay - Assistant Coach
Dave McKay, a Dublin, Ireland native, was named Philadelphia Union’s Assistant Coach, Performance ahead of the 2020 Supporters’ Shield winning season. With his CSCS, NASM CES and USSF A license, McKay completes the first team’s technical staff with experience in both on-field technical and tactical development as well as all aspects of physical performance. McKay first joined the Union in 2019 as Head Fitness Coach.
McKay came to Union after 3 years with expansion team, Orlando City SC, where he was responsible for creating the Performance Department for their inaugural season under the direction of Adrian Heath and later, Jason Kreis. During his time at Orlando FC as Director of Fitness, McKay also oversaw the performance department of the Orlando Pride and OCB teams.
Previously, McKay had been an assistant fitness coach for Sporting Kansas City as part of Peter Vermes’ performance staff. During his time at Sporting, he was a part of winning the 2012 US Open Cup and 2013 MLS Cup.
Additionally, McKay worked with the Sporting KC Academy for 3 years and was an integral part of the Developmental Academy. As Assistant Coach & Head Fitness Coach for U16 /U18’s, he worked closely to advance players to the first team, notably, Erik Palmer-Brown & Daniel Salloi.
McKay received his undergrad in Exercise Science with a major in Strength and Conditioning from Belhaven University. A highly motivated coach, McKay continues his coaching licenses as he is completing his UEFA A license in 2021.
