Set Pieces: Tough Stretch Ahead

One bad bounce isn’t affecting Union Manager Peter Nowak’s confidence in his starting goalkeeper. Chris Seitz, who has played well of late, will start tonight against Columbus, a match Nowak rightfully considers critical for the Union’s playoff chances.

It’s no secret that Sebastien Le Toux has been the Union’s horse, but new additions Justin Mapp and Eduardo Coudet are here to help. The early reviews are in, and Nowak and Co. are impressed.

According to Le Toux, the Union are stronger now than earlier in the season because “sometimes you have to go through tough times in order to get better."

JP Dellacamera sat down with Le Toux, Danny Califf and Stefani Miglioranzi to discuss the first half of the season and tonight's match against Columbus.

While goalkeeper Brian Perk is no longer with the Union, his former teammates will be following his career progress. It didn’t take long for the 21-year-old to find a new home, with LA claiming him off waivers Wednesday.

With matches coming up against Columbus, red-hot FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake in the next seven days, the Union are entering perhaps their toughest stretch of the season.

The first match comes tonight against Columbus, Alejandro Moreno's former team. While Moreno was well respected in Columbus for his workmanlike attitude, his departure was somewhat contentious.

While there are plenty of potential benefits to expanding to a 34-game schedule next season, such as maintaining a balanced schedule with Vancouver and Portland entering the league, there's also at least one drawback.

On the subject of expansion, there are some unique plans in place that could lead to Detroit landing a team in MLS.
