Bethlehem Steel FC Prepare For Home Opener Against FC Cincinnati

Bethlehem Steel FC are set to take on FC Cincinnati for their inaugural home opener at Lehigh University’s Goodman Stadium. The two teams will face off on Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m.

Bethlehem are coming off their first ever win thanks to Union loanee Fabian Herbers, whose lone goal against FC Montreal earned Steel FC the three points.

“I think we can step up the level of pressing just a little bit and our recognition of when to keep the ball instead of trying to get to the end line,” Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke said. “I think we were overly aggressive at times in their final third, and could have been a little more disciplined about keeping the ball.”

Herbers was accompanied by six Union players that helped give the team extra motivation. Taylor Washington, Eric Ayuk, Joshua Yaro, Walter Restrepo, Leo Fernandes and John McCarthy made the trip to Montreal for the game.

“With a couple of guys coming down from the Union, they bought in right away the kind of style we play,” team captain Ryan Richter said. “At home we’ll maybe want to have a little bit more of the ball, but as long as we can get the result then that’s all we really care about.”

Steel will look to keep up the physical yet technical style of play for the up coming home game as well.

“We are hoping to bring the identity of the city out in the team, and show some real grit and determination if nothing else every time we step on the field,” Burke said.  “If we do that, we give ourselves a good platform to build and play good soccer when we have the ball.”

A limited amount of tickets are still available for Sunday’s match and can be purchased online or by calling 1-844-STEELFC.
