In the Generation adidas Cup, the Union U-16s went to Harrison, New Jersey, and returned with another point after forcing a 3-3 draw against New York Red Bulls U-16s. Forward Daniel Bloyou netted a hat-trick after the Red Bulls jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Qualifying will pick back up over President’s Day weekend in 2017.
In the NCAA Division I soccer tournament, three teams with Union academy products made it through to the quarterfinal round. Joey DeZart and the second-seeded Wake Forest Demon Deacons beat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 2-1, and will face Virginia Tech on December 3. Ninth-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels, featuring former Academy players Will Campbell, Sean Wilson, and Jack Skahan, knocked off #8 seed Syracuse 1-0 and will face Providence on December 2. Kenny Lassiter appeared in the game for the Orange, and Morgan Hackworth is on the roster as well. Rob Campbell’s third-seeded Clemson Tigers beat Albany 3-1 and will take on Denver on December 2.
