Philadelphia Union today announced that it is set to participate in the 2017 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational, a preseason tournament that takes place in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida area from February 18-25. The tournament, which is hosted by the Tampa Bay Rowdies, is also set to feature the participation of the Montreal Impact, D.C. United, the Chicago Fire and Toronto FC.
The Union are playing in the Rowdies Suncoast Invitational as part of their 2017 preseason schedule, which includes two separate visits to Clearwater, Florida.
“The Rowdies Suncoast Invitational is a terrific opportunity for Earnie, Jim and the players to prepare for the 2017 MLS season against elite competition,” said Union Chief Business Officer Tim McDermott. “We are excited for Union supporters to have the chance to see their team in game action as part of our preseason in Clearwater. The City of Clearwater continues to provide us with world class training facilities which help accelerate our development."
The Union begin their preseason on Monday, January 23 with a local training camp in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania before departing for their Clearwater, FL training base for the third consecutive season. The club’s first camp in the Sunshine State is set for January 31-February 10. Following a break from February 11-13, the club returns to Clearwater to train and participate in the Suncoast Invitational from February 14-26.
At the Rowdies Suncoast Invitational, Philadelphia is set to play matches against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (February 18, Al Lang Stadium, 7:30 p.m. ET), Montreal Impact (February 22, Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex, 7:00 p.m. ET) and D.C. United (February 25, Al Lang Stadium, 5:00 p.m. ET).
