Philadelphia Union are pleased to announce that the hometown hero for Saturday night's match against Columbus Crew SC is Gunnery Sergeant Bret W. Daneker.
Daneker first joined the United States Marine Corps in 2004 and throughout his 15 years of service has been deployed three times. Currently, he is in charge of the recruiting substation in Downington, PA.
For his service, Daneker has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps commendation one gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal one gold stars in lieu of two campaign phases, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with one bronze star in lieu of two campaign phases, the Globar War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two bronze stars in lieu of third award and finally the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
