Academy teams look strong as they build up for Red Bull this weekend

GA CUP Academy U-17's

In an affiliation showdown, Philadelphia Union's academy built on their recent strong performances against Continental FC DELCO. The Union's Under-14s side, with Fred da Silva coaching, put in a strong first half performance to take a lead and used an organized defense to hang on for the remainder of a tight match.
The U15s continued to adjust well to the club's new system of play as Million Evans and Quinn Sullivan's goalscoring form remained unimpeachable. Evans had two with Sullivan knocking one in late.
With numerous regulars out of the lineup, Gary Lewis' U17 side played out a scoreless draw with Continental FC DELCO as they continue to ramp up for the GA Cup in Dallas later this month.
One age group higher, the U19s found plenty of goals as they put six past their opponents. Recent US U17 Boys' National Team call-up Jack de Vries got on the board and Tonny Temple added a brace.
Looking ahead
The next step forward for the Union academy is a huge trip to New York Red Bulls this weekend.
Last time these squads met, Brenden Aaronson was the star of the show on the Talen Energy Stadium grass, and the Union U19s will be looking to make a standout impression as Philly continues to move their young stars into Bethlehem Steel and the first team. The latest player to make the move is Shanyder Borgelin, a 17-year old striker who signed with Bethlehem Steel FC today.
The matches against Red Bull begin at 10:00 a.m. ET on Saturday with a U13s match on turf before the U19s face off at 10:30 a.m. ET on the grass field at the Red Bull training facility.
