The Philadelphia Union are pleased to announce that the hometown hero for Wednesday night's match against Colorado Rapids will be Sergeant Douglas Hellyer.
Sergeant Hellyer joined the Marine Corps in 2009 as a utility electrician, completing tours of duty in Afghanistan, Senegal, Mali and Morocco. Since 2016, Sergeant Hellyer has been the non-commission officer in charge at Recruiting Station Bucks County.
For his services, he has received many honors such as the Navy achievement medal in lieu of 2 awards, 5 meritorious masts and 2 letters of appreciation. He was also named the 2018 Recruiter of the Year for RS Harrisburg.
