Things will look differently when Major League Soccer returns on July 9th and one of the many changes will see the utilization of five substitutes per contest. As the MLS is Back Tournament draws closer, MLSSoccer.com's Greg Seltzer came up with his top 10 super substitutes and of course Philadelphia Union midfielder Ilsinho made the list.
Known as the cheat code for his remarkable plays against FC Dallas and the single-handed destruction of New York Red Bulls in 2019, Ilsinho's inclusion was a must according to the writer.
"After last season, Philadelphia's bench wizard needs no introduction to leg-weary defenders," Seltzer writes. "Ilsinho swashbuckled his way to three goals and seven assists as a substitute in 2019, and many of those big plays helped sway results the Union's way. If there was such a thing as a 12th man award, Ilsinho would be the no-brainer pick."
