Union clinch playoff berth for third consecutive year; Homegrowns give Union point on the road
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 14, 2020) – The Philadelphia Union earned a point against D.C. United on the road on Wednesday night in a 2-2 draw. With the tie, the Union have clinched a playoff berth for the 2020 MLS Playoffs. This is the fifth time in franchise history the Union have clinched, and the first time the club has clinched in three consecutive years. The Union have five regular season games left, as they did when they clinched in 2019. Anthony Fontana put the Union on the board when he scored his fifth goal of the season in his third start of his 2020 campaign, he is now second on the team in goals scored. Mark McKenzie scored his first career MLS goal to tie the game in the 87’. The club is now 9-1-3 when scoring the first goal of the game. The Union continue their road swing at Gillette Stadium on October 19 where they will face New England Revolution (7:30 p.m. ET / PHL17).
