Philadelphia Union announced today that Macissé Diop, better known by his gamer tag CisséSZN, will represent the club in the upcoming eMLS season.

Cissé’s path to representing the Boys in Blue dates back to 2018 when he first competed in the inaugural esports venture but came up just short with an unbeaten run in the tournament ending in the finals with a loss to eventual eMLS Cup winner Doolsta.

Unshaken by the setback, Cissé continued to pursue his goal and in 2019 added eMLS experience as a Sporting Kansas City’s esports competitor. During his time with the club, Diop racked up six wins and added nine draws to sixth-place in the Western Conference.

In November that year, Cissé returned to City of Brotherly Love to compete in the Union Cup for another opportunity to represent the Union. While he won the tournament, Cissé had to wait a little longer for his shot as the club added Super Bowl Champion Jay Ajayi to its gaming roster.

Just like Philly, Cissé didn’t just sit idly on the sidelines, he continued to hone his craft on PlayStation 4. When the club hosted FIFAdelphia presented by Subaru earlier this year, he once more looked to show the world and the club he was ready for a shot. He delivered with a perfect 36-0-0 record in the tournament to claim his second-straight Union Tournament Title.

A well-traveled soccer fan, Diop was born in Boston to Senegalese parents and spent his early childhood in Dakar, Senegal. He pursued competitive soccer at a young age, playing for the prestigious Diambars FC soccer academy in Senegal, before moving with his family to Johannesburg, South Africa. After deciding to prioritize academic studies over the sport, Diop focused on gaming to quench his thirst for competitive soccer.

Diop graduated from the French International High School in Johannesburg in 2015, the same year he moved to the United States to begin his college studies at Rutgers.
