After a two week break in play, Bethlehem Steel FC returns to USL regular season action when it travels to face Eastern Conference leaders, Louisville City FC. Kickoff from Louisville Slugger Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and fans can watch the match both YouTube and on the club’s website.
Friday’s match will be Steel FC first of September, with the club having to reschedule its home match against Tampa Bay Rowdies for Wednesday, September 27, due to Hurricane Irma. Steel FC last saw the pitch against Orlando City B on August 31, earning a crucial point with a 1-1 draw. In a defensive-minded match that saw only three shots on goal, Marcus Epps tallied his first USL goal in the 85th minute to lift Steel FC to the draw. The goal snapped a three-game losing streak for Steel FC.
“They are a very strong team physically and win their duels consistently,” Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke said. “They have some big bodies up top that can hurt you, they routinely will cross during open play so you have to work on where you want to prepare for that service. We are confident that we can make the game difficult for them in that respect. ”
Steel FC and Louisville face off for the second and final time of the regular season, with Louisville holding a 2-0-1 advantage. Steel FC will be looking to avenge a 3-1 loss suffered to Louisville at Goodman Stadium on August 20. In the contest, Luke Spencer notched a first half brace to spark the offense while Steel FC got a headed-goal from Richie Marquez on a set piece.
Holding the top spot in the Eastern Conference, Louisville enters the contest having won four of its last five matches. Their latest came against Pittsburgh, downing the Riverhounds by a 3-0 margin. Louisville has been impressive at Louisville Slugger Field in 2017, sporting an 8-2-2 record at home. Spencer leads the high-powered offense with nine goals scored in 19 appearances but Louisville is a balanced attack as 15 of their 16 field players have notched a goal.
