UNION FACT CHECK: Union face off against Chicago for first time in 2017

Philadelphia Union return to action this Saturday when they host the newly revamped Chicago Fire at Talen Energy Stadium.

  • The Union enter the week with a record of 8-12-9 with 33 points. Philadelphia is just one win shy of jumping to seventh in the Eastern Conference.
  • The Boys in Blue own an all-time record at Talen Energy Stadium of 4-2-2 against Chicago Fire. The club has not lost to Chicago at home since August of 2013.
  • Philadelphia is coming off a 0-0 road result against Eastern Conference rival New York Red Bulls.
  • The Union have recorded a result in three consecutive weeks, earning draws against Atlanta, Minnesota and New York Red Bulls.  
  • Philadelphia has earned results in five of their last seven matches dating back to August 5.
  • A home win on Saturday would tie a club record for home victories in a season with eight. The club recorded eight home wins last season as well.
  • This season, Philadelphia has scored 25 goals at Talen Energy Stadium, the third most all-time in club history. The Union scored 30 home goals twice before (2014 & 2016).
  • Last season’s MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake had a sensational performance yesterday against New York Red Bulls, recorded his eighth shutout of the season.
  • Blake recorded eight saves in the match, two shy of tying a career high. 
  • Blake was also named Man of the Match during ESPN’s telecast.
  • This season, Blake has shattered his previous shutout high, and is only allowing 1.24 goals per game, which is the lowest in his career.
  • CJ Sapong has recorded 13 goals this season, which is a personal best for the Union striker.
  • Sapong has now scored the second most goals in a single season in Union history.
  • Sapong is just one goal shy of tying Sebastien Le Toux for most goals scored all-time in a Union season. Le Toux recorded 14 goals in the 2010 season.
