Chris Pontius showed up in a big way against Chicago Fire, scoring two goals in the Union's 3-1 victory.
Pontius's first goal came in the 10th minute of the match, when Keegan Rosenberry sent a cross into the box. Pontius made a play on the ball with a diving header, redirecting the pass behind Fire keeper Matt Lampson to give the Union a 1-0 lead. His first goal was also his first of the season.
Later in the match, Pontius found the back of the net for his second multi-goal game in a Union kit and seventh of his career. Pontius completed the brace after Fafa Picault ripped a shot from the top of the box, which was saved by Lampson. Pontius crashed the net and one-timed the rebound across the grain, putting the ball into the back of the net for the Union's second goal of the match, which ended up as the game-winner.
Because of his heroics in the match, Pontius was voted the IBX Live Fearless Man of the Match, where he garnered 74 percent of all votes. It is Pontius's first Man of the Match award of the season.
