Union Save of the Year: Honorable Mentions

The Union's Save of the Year competition has concluded, with John McCarthy's stop against Sporting Kansas City taking the crowd. However, here are a few stops that just barely missed the cut for the competition.

Andre Blake vs. Real Salt Lake

The Union headed into Real Salt Lake riding a four-game win streak and a six-game unbeaten streak. The Union ultimately fell to RSL 1-0, but Andre Blake stood on his head, especially in the first half. As the first half came to a close, RSL's Luis Silva ripped a long-range shot, which looked like it was destined for the top corner. But Blake got fully extended and tipped the save out of bounds and away from danger.

Keegan Rosenberry vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Way back in the season opener, Keegan Rosenberry made a goal-line clear to keep the Union even. In the 66th minute, the Whitecaps had a corner kick, and the service into the box led to a very dangerous scoring chance. Vancouver ripped a shot near the post, but Rosenberry, standing on the goal line, made the block to keep it even. The stop led to the Union's first clean sheet and points of the 2017 season.

Andre Blake vs. Real Salt Lake

Earlier in the match against Real Salt Lake, Andre Blake made an even better save against Luis Silva. Silva found himself with space in the box, and RSL fed him a pass. Silva one-timed the shot, trying to sneak it close post. However, even though he was leaning the other way, Blake got over in time to deny the shot and stun the RSL crowd.
