The Union and Orlando City have had exciting battles in their brief history, as Orlando joined the league in 2015. Overall Philadelphia owns a 3-2-2 record against Orlando City and as these two clubs have their paths cross again, we take a look at one memorable moment in particular that occurred in 2016.
On April 8, 2016, Philadelphia Union fans were treated to one of the most exciting free-kicks in club history. With the match tied at one, and time dwindling down, former Union midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta brought fans to their feet.
In the 90th minute of the contest, Barnetta stepped up from beyond the 18 and sent a world-class free-kick that sailed over the wall and banged off the corner of the crossbar and post — falling into the back of the net to ultimately give Philadelphia the 2-1 win.
That kick not only sent the fans home happy, but sent the Union into an excellent summer run where the club played to a 5-3-5 record and a top of the table standing in the summer.
As the Union welcome Orlando to Talen Energy Stadium on Friday, the club will look for more memorable moments from their current crop of players.
