The Union Academy has reached an exciting new milestone as the first student from YSC Academy who began as a player for an outside club has earned a place on the Union Academy roster.
Ramzi Qawasmy, a rising senior, was part of the first cohort of players to enter the school in 2013. He will join the U19’s in their upcoming season while finishing his high school career, and will then continue on to Division 1 in college.
Qawasmy, like most of the other non-Union players who attend YSC Academy, comes from Continental FC and has been working towards this opportunity for years. Academy Director Tommy Wilson said he has been under consideration for an Academy slot for quite a while, and that his work ethic and dedication over the years has been outstanding. The unique circumstances of having players like Qawasmy training so closely with their Union Academy counterparts allows coaches to keep a close eye on prospects.
That closeness eventually led to an offer with the team that Wilson described as ‘without risk,’ he and his staff already know Qawasmy will excel because they have seen his efforts over the years and know exactly what an exemplary player he is.
