Elliott for Rookie of the Year
Rookie of the Year voting is right around the corner, and the leading candidate is, and should be, Jack Elliott. Drafted in the fourth round at 77th overall, he's played the most minutes for Union defenders and the third most minutes on the team. He's tied for third in MLS in blocks (20) and seventh in clearances (129) among all defenders, and leads the Union in many defensive categories. In short, he deserves the award. Andre Blake wins everything
Yesterday was basically Andre Blake Day on Philadelphiaunion.com. Blake first was named IBX Live Fearless Man of the Match for his stellar game against New York Red Bulls, where he stopped eight shots, including seven in the first half. He was then named to the MLS Team of the Week. Finally, MLS nominated his save against Bradley Wright-Phillips after Sacha Kljestan's free kick for Save of the Week. All in all, it was a good Monday for Blake. To vote for Blake in Save of the Week, click here.
As the Union gear up for their Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night against Chicago Fire September 23, the team held an event in late August where the organization, paired up with Troy Cole, or Kickasso, unveiled cleats designed by children affected by pediatric cancer. The event was a big success, with everyone in the room smiling and awe-stricken by the cleats. Leading up to the match, the team released a video from the event, which you can watch below.
