Putting out Fires
Saturday night saw a big game from Chris Pontius and CJ Sapong, as the Union earned three points against Chicago Fire, defeating the team 3-1. Pontius scored his first two goals of the season, while Sapong netted his 14th of the season, tying the Union's single-season record. Keegan Rosenberry and Warren Creavalle earned their first assists of the season in the match, and with the win, the Union extended their unbeaten streak to four games. Also in the Union's match against Chicago was a formation that may have turned a few heads. Head Coach Jim Curtin rolled out an inverted triangle in the midfield against the Fire, with Haris Medunjanin and Alejandro Bedoya ahead of Warren Creavalle in the midfield. However, Curtin dispelled the notion that it was a different formation, but rather the same 4-2-3-1 the team has been implementing all season.
