Cory Burke Sets Single Season Scoring Mark

Bethlehem Steel FC finds itself in the midst of another run for the playoffs in 2017, currently sitting in the eighth and final position in the USL Eastern Conference picture before Week 28 kicks off at Goodman Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

While Steel FC has already established a new record for wins in a season, nearly doubling last season’s total, recently the play of forward Cory Burke has been a large part of the success. Burke has made the most of his recent form since playing for the Jamaican national team at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he helped the Reggae Boyz to the final. Since returning to Steel FC, the club has scored 14 goals with six coming from the 25-year-old forward.

On Sunday, Burke continued his scoring ways, collecting his second brace of the season against in-state rival Pittsburgh. While Burke pushed his goal total to four against the Riverhounds, Burke once again rewrote Steel FC’s record books. Already the club’s all-time leader in goals and points, Burke notched goals seven and eight of 2017 to establish a single-season scoring mark. By notching the pair of goals Burke passed teammate Seku Conneh’s seven goals for the record and the team lead.

While the competitiveness of the two forwards is known by supporters of the club, any competition for the club record should net Steel FC its first appearance in the USL Playoffs in just the club’s second season.
