Philadelphia Union’s Alejandro Bedoya, CJ Sapong and Warren Creavalle Called Up For International Duty

Philadelphia Union, in conjunction with the United States Men’s National Team, have announced that midfielder Alejandro Bedoya and forward CJ Sapong have been named to the final Men’s National Team Roster for their upcoming international friendly against Portugal on Nov. 14 in Leiria, Portugal. Additionally, Philadelphia Union has announced that midfielder Warren Creavalle has also been called up by Guyana in their friendly against Trinidad and Tobago.

Bedoya has earned 65 international caps, including four FIFA World Cup appearances. At the international level, Bedoya continues to be an indispensable option for the USMNT. The midfielder started nine of 12 matches for the U.S. in 2013, including playing a pivotal role in the team’s capture of the CONCACAF Gold Cup title and finishing atop its World Cup qualifying group for three of the last four cycles. In Bedoya’s last five starts for the national team, the Stars and Stripes own a record of 4-0-1. Bedoya has made 10 appearances for the United States Men’s National Team from January 2017 until October 2017. In those 10 appearances, Bedoya led the USMNT to victories in friendlies, Gold Cup Matches as well as World Cup Qualifying matches. Bedoya also captained the Men’s National Team during their 2017 Gold Cup winning run.

Sapong will be looking to add onto his two career international caps for the United States Men’s National Team. Sapong earned both of his caps during international friendlies in 2012, against Venezuela and Panama respectively. Sapong’s call-up comes after a career season with his club team. For Philadelphia in 2017, CJ Sapong recorded 16 goals this season for the Union, setting a career-high and a new franchise record for goals scored in a season. 13 of Sapong’s 16 goals came at Talen Energy Stadium, the most ever recorded at home by a Union player. Sapong recorded five assists this season, tying a career-high and broke a franchise record while setting a new career-high in fouls suffered with 87 in 2017.

Finally, Creavalle will join the Guyana as they take on Trinidad and Tobago on Nov. 14 in an international friendly. Creavalle has earned three caps at the international level, with his last appearance coming on March 28 when Guyana took on Martinique. In 2017, Creavalle appeared in 13 matches for his club team, his second most in a season since joining Philadelphia in 2015.

“It’s always an honor to play for your national team and I’m looking forward to competing against Trinidad and Tobago," Creavalle said. "This is a good opportunity for me to continue my form during the offseason at the national level.”
