CJ Sapong received his first international call-up since 2012 for the US Men's National Team following his career year in 2017, and he rewarded the US Soccer brass with an impressive performance.
Sapong got the starting nod at striker for the USMNT's match against Portugal, his first ever start for the US. He played 77 minutes in the match, more than doubling his previous total. He also registered his first career international assist on Weston McKennie's first career international goal.
Heading into camp, Sapong said he just wanted to make an impact with the team and take in as much of the experience of being with the USMNT as he could. He frequently posted to social media, giving fans an inside look at what it was like to be with the USMNT in Portugal.
