MLS gave its 10 best culture moments of the 2017 season, and naturally, the Union's supporters section found its way onto the list.
Sons Of Ben celebrated their 10 year anniversary during the 2017 season, and without the group, there would not have been soccer in Philadelphia. The group is responsible for showcasing just how passionate and deserving of soccer Philadelphia was by attending MLS games in support of a team that didn't exist. Just a year after the group's formation, Philadelphia was awarded an expansion franchise.
To celebrate the group's 10th anniversary, the Union held Sons of Ben Appreciation Night in the team's 3-1 victory against FC Dallas. For the match, the Union wore the Sons of Ben logo on their warm-up tops, had four Sons of Ben corner flags, traded jerseys with first-team players, and the organization even unveiled a tifo in their honor.
The Union also received an honorable mention in its Chief Tattoo Officer. The Union announced their search for the position in February, and eventually signed Bonedaddys Tattoo with special guest Dan Czar as the go-to artists for Union players and fans. Since the partnership started, four players and a technical staff member have received tattoos from the CTO, as well as season ticket members.
