For the second time in three seasons, the Zips will face off against Stanford in the semifinals of the College Cup. In the teams' previous meeting, the two played a scoreless 120 minutes, but Akron was eliminated in penalties after falling 8-7. This season, Akron comes back with a vengeance, riding a 12-game unbeaten streak into the semifinals. The Zips are led by the duo of Stuart Holthusen and Sam Gainford, who have 27 and 25 points, respectively. Both have double-digit goal totals, while also being avid distributors with the ball as well. Holthusen is one of four players who has played in every Akron game, and is the only one of two rostered players to start every game. The two also rank high in nearly every offensive category in the MAC, while goaltender Ben Lundt leads the conference in goals-against average and save percentage. The Zips are in the midst of another deep championship run, and this team is set up to finally break through and make the championship game once again.
