2017 has been a wild year for Eric Ayuk. On April 4th, it was announced that the 20-year-old Midfielder from Cameroon was loaned to Jönköpings Södra IF in Sweden’s top tier for the remainder of the 2017 campaign. Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart said at the time that the move would be “a terrific opportunity for Eric to receive valuable first team playing time, and at a high level in Sweden’s topflight.”
Earlier in the year, Ayuk joined Cameroon’s U-20 squad (“The Indomitable Lions”) at the U-20 African Cup of Nations. He scored in the team’s opening match of the tournament, a 3-1 loss to South Africa, and found the back of the net again in a 4-1 win over Sudan in their second match. Ayuk was named Man of the Match for his performance against Sudan.

While at Jönköpings, Ayuk was twice named Man of the Match, making 12 league appearances and one cup appearance, with one goal to his name. In June, he received a call-up to the Cameroon U-23 National Team for a friendly against France’s U-21 squad.

“He performed well during his loan stint in Sweden, receiving valuable playing time at a high level. We look forward to helping him take the next step in his development here in Philadelphia,” said Earnie Stewart.
