Midfielder Zach Pfeffer was signed on Dec. 22, 2010 as the Union’s first Home Grown player at the age of 15.

Born Jan. 6, 1995, Pfeffer was the fourth youngest player ever to sign an MLS contract, behind Freddy Adu, Fued Ibrahim, and Diego Fagundez. 

2014: Appeared in a career-high five matches, starting one. Pfeffer became the fourth youngest player to ever score a goal for the Union at 19 years, 9 months and 20 days after equalizing against Columbus on Oct. 26. His lone start came against Vancouver on June 7, his third career start. He participated in All-Star weekend festivities by being named to the MLS Homegrown roster, a squad that faced the Portland Timbers U-23 team. He was also called up to the U.S. U-20 national team for a three-game camp in Argentina; he scored the lone goal in a 1-1 draw against the hosts.

2013: Did not appear in any matches, spent a year long loan in Germany under the TSG Hoffenheim 1899 youth system. 

2011: Played three matches and started two for Philadelphia’s first team during his rookie season… His debut came at home on Sept. 17 in a 1-0 win vs. Columbus Crew… His next two appearances were as a substitute at Sporting Kansas City and as a starter vs. New York Red Bulls in the last game of the regular season… Played for the US U-17 national team in the Mondial Minimes Montaigu Tournament in France… Featured in eight Reserve League games, netting one goal... Led the Union U-17's to an undefeated record at the Generation adidas Cup, scoring four goals and controlling the attack.

2010: Signed as the Union’s first Homegrown Player on December 22 at the age of 15 years and 350 days... First player to join the 2010 expansion team from the MLS Homegrown Player initiative... Fourth youngest player ever to sign an MLS contract, behind Freddy Adu, Fued Ibrahim, and Diego Fagundez.

Youth/Club: Member of Philadelphia’s U-17 squad that competed in the MLS U-17 SUM Cup in Houston, Texas.... While training with the first team, the youngster entered as a substitute in a friendly against Chivas Guadalajara on September 1... Represented the United States at the U-14 and U-15 levels and trained at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fl., as part of U.S. Soccer’s U-17 residency program... Was a member of the U-15/U-16 USSF FC Delco Academy, as well as the Upper Dublin, Cheltenham, YMS, and Montgomery United youth clubs.

International: Was one of 19 players called-up to the U.S. U-20 team for a September 2014 camp in Argentina. He scored the lone goal in a 1-1 draw with the hosts, Argentina. In April 2014, Pfeffer was called up to the U-20 team to take part in the Dallas Cup. He played in four out of the five games, scored one goal and handed out two assists.
