Along with the Philadelphia Union Foundation, Power Home Remodeling, Adidas, and the Chester School District, we are thrilled to help bring soccer back to Chester high school for the first time in 30 years!
"The Philadelphia Union Foundation is dedicated to the families and youth of Chester,” said Hayes Hunt, Chairman, Union Foundation. “As such, the Foundation is extremely proud to support and fund soccer programs for the young women and men of Chester High School. The owners and leaders of the Philadelphia Union have generously contributed to the Foundation with the goal of establishing a first-class soccer team and related facilities for Chester HS. We look forward to this great partnership with the Chester Upland School District."
With funding support from Power and Adidas and the assistance of the Chester-Upland School District and the City of Chester, the Union are backing a new soccer program for boys and girls Varsity and Junior Varsity teams that will provide over 200 children with a professional-quality soccer experience.
New practice fields, revamped game fields, outfitting by Adidas, coaches and coaching support, and game operations will all be part of this new commitment the Philadelphia Union Foundation to grow the presence and power of soccer in Chester.
Chester-Upland School District superintendent Dr. Juan Baughn framed the school system's partnership with the Union, Union Foundation, Power, and Adidas as another method of linking students to their interests
"We continue to find ways to give our students the opportunity to excel in their passions, whether it’s in the classroom or on a field," he said. "Bringing soccer back to the District after a long hiatus is just the latest way we’re creating excellence at the Chester Upland School District. This is an exciting time for our young people, and we’re so thankful to the Philadelphia Union, our Chester neighbors, for their help in growing our new soccer program."
Boys and girls middle school and Junior Varsity high school teams will begin play in 2019-2020, with Varsity teams added during the 2020-2021 academic year. In addition to hosting the matches at their home fields at the STEM Academy at Showalter, the teams will also play select games at the Union's home: Subaru Park.
