CHESTER, Pa. (July 15, 2020) – The Philadelphia Union defeated Inter Miami CF 2-1 on Tuesday night, locking in a place in the knockout stage of the MLS is Back Tournament. The Union took the lead in just the fifth minute on a long-distance strike by Kai Wagner. Then, in the 63rd minute, Kacper Przybylko opened his 2020 scoring campaign by scoring the game-winning goal off an assist from Brenden Aaronson. The Union return to action on Monday, July 20 vs. Orlando City SC in the final Group A match of the MLS is Back Tournament (8:00 p.m. ET /TUDN).

TEAM NOTES:

  • Tonight marks defender Raymon Gaddis’ 200th start for the Philadelphia Union. He becomes the first player in Union history, and the 114th player in MLS history, to register 200 starts. Gaddis reached 200 games played during his 2019 campaign. This marks the 41st-straight start for Gaddis.
  • Kai Wagner’s fifth minute goal is his first-ever for the Philadelphia Union. He made 30 appearances at left back for the Union in 2019, registering eight assists. Wagner is the second defender to score for the Union in 2020, joining Jakob Glesnes who found the back of the net in the 3-3 draw against LAFC (3/8/20).
  • Kacper Przybylko’s 63rd-minute match winner pushes his Union goal total to 16. He is now tied for 7th on the Union’s all-time goals-scored list with Roland Alberg. Just above him is current teammate Ilsinho, who has scored 19 goals. Przybylko is scoring at an incredible rate, having reached the top 10 in just 30 appearances. The next lowest match total is Alberg who needed 52 matches to reach the same total.
  • For the fourth match in a row, at least three Homegrown players played for the Union. Mark McKenzie and Brenden Aaronson started for the fourth-straight match with Anthony Fontana making a substitute appearance for his fourth-straight match as well.
  • Aaronson registered his first assist of the season providing the helper on Przybylko’s match-winner, his third career assist.
