It’s crunch time.
For everyone here at Union HQ, the anticipation, excitement and stress that comes with the fact that First Kick is five days away is palpable. For the players, an early flight Sunday morning provided a head start to a day of rest today. A much needed respite, considering, for many of these guys, it’s been close to a month without seeing family and friends.
Union midfielder Jimmy McLaughlin and forward Antoine Hoppenot seized the day, unwinding the only way these two know how – in typical fun fashion. Earlier today, Hoppenot posted this via his Twitter account:

For us front office types, it’s gearing up for tomorrow’s “Meet the Team” event at Xfinity Live! which kicks off at 7 p.m. and features the unveiling of not just our current team, but of our latest uniform design. The unveiling of the new third kit will be approximately at 7:35 p.m. and fans will be able to purchase it and more at the event. There will be players modeling the full kit, in addition to others wearing various related merchandise.
Also, we listened to you and launched our Instagram platform - set to go live tomorrow at the event. To celebrate what we hope will be another great medium to relate with our supporters, we are holding a contest where a unique photo from the event could win you a prize relating to the third kit. See something unique at tomorrow night’s event? Take a picture and upload with the captions @PhiladelphiaUnionMLS and #MeetTheTeam2013. Here’s more information and all the official contest rules.
Back on the player front…
As the technical staff gear up for First Kick and try to lock in their final number before the March 1 roster deadline, the club continued on without a pair of trialists in midfielder Jordi Vidal and forward Georgi Hristov.
Also, Union writer Andy Jasner caught up with Union defender and local product Jeff Parke, who spoke about the excitement that continues to build ahead of opening the season closer to home in front of family and friends. The article includes video as Parke wrapped the final installment of dailies from preseason training in Florida. In it he talks about the camaraderie that has emerged with his fellow teammates, the look of the Union’s back line and why he generally slaps himself in the face and bangs out push-ups before a match.
