Union named 13 Semifinalists for Chief Tattoo Officer

After announcing their search to hire a Chief Tattoo Officer, a position unlike any other ever sought after in professional sports, Philadelphia Union has announced that they have narrowed the field of applicants to 13 semifinalists.

The team received over 150 applications for the position, a field that was initially narrowed down to 40 by Union Vice President of Marketing Doug Vosik. From there, designers and tattoo enthusiasts within the Union front office collectively whittled the field down to the current 13.

“What an amazing experience this has been,” offered Vosik. “We are overwhelmed at both the quantity and quality of talent in the local tattoo community; so many artists with their own, unique flair and signature. Beyond the enthusiasm we’ve seen in the area, others from as far away as England, Russia and Japan got into the spirit of this opportunity.  The international interest has been exciting, but with so much talent in our own backyard, we are focused on finding the right partner, in the Delaware Valley.”

The next step of the evaluation process will see Philadelphia Union players offer their input in the hopes of narrowing the field down to a final five, based on the criteria of the top five being an artist from whom they would want to receive a tattoo. Vosik will then visit each shop personally to get to know the artists ahead of a final selection. The Union are looking for not only a great artist, but also for great people with which to work.

After announcing the Chief Tattoo Officer, Philadelphia Union will then hold the inaugural event at the tattoo artist’s shop with Vosik, original Sons of Ben member Corey Furlan and a Union player all getting tattoos simultaneously to mark the inauguration of the partnership. More information will be provided as to the final Chief Tattoo Officer selection as well as the inaugural event in the near future.
