After guiding the Philadelpia Union back to the top of the Supporters' Shield race and make more club history, Head Coach Bradley Carnell has received MLSSoccer.com's Coach of the Matchday honors from the league.
Under Carnell's leadership the Boys in Blue are unbeaten in their last 13 matches which includes not only a team-record 10 games in MLS play but two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches and a friendly against Atlas FC.
The record-breaking result came on Saturday night as the Union nabbed their third stoppage time winner of the season. Missing six regular starters due to injuries and Concacaf Gold Cup, the Union struck late in the first half on Jesus Bueno's golazo who made just his fifth start of the season.
Carnell continued to stick to his principles and relying on depth with key substitutions that combined for the game-winning goal in the 98th minute. Markus Anderson stole the headlines as one of the subs but the play involved others that didn't start the match with Jeremy Rafanello playing the initial cross that forced Charlotte FC to attempt a clearance. Homegrown Frankie Westfield won the ball with centering header into the path of Cavan Sullivan but the 15-year-old left the ball for Anderson in the middle of the 18 for the forward's first MLS goal.
After playing their only home match of the month, the Union have a well deserved week off to recharge ahead of another congested schedule that sees the Boys in Blue play seven games in 24 days. It all begins with a midweek clash with Chicago Fire FC on Wednesday, June 25th. Kick off from the Windy City is set for 8:30PM ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
