In their final tune-up for the GA Cup finals in Dallas, Philadelphia Union’s U15s and U17s did battle with New York Red Bulls, one of the top competitors in their division, as part of a full slate of academy games at Red Bull Training Complex last weekend. The U15s are heading to the GA Cup finals to face off with four teams from LigaMX, while the U17s are in the Premier Division and will go toe-to-toe with a mix of international and MLS clubs.

Last time the Union met New York Red Bulls, they executed a clean sweep at Talen Energy Stadium. This time, the U15s got things off to a strong start with a controlled performance that left them a goal up just after the half-hour mark.

Zion Scarlett doubled the lead in the second half as his team held on for another shutout win. Now the U15s ready for Monterrey in the GA Cup on April 17th at 10:00 a.m. ET

The U17s remain on top of their division heading into the GA Cup, but Red Bulls has been right on their heels all season and sits in third place. The match remained even until the second half when Roald Mitchell and the Union’s Aboubacar Camara exchanged goals four minutes apart. The match ended in a draw, and Philly’s U17s will be ready to roll when they face Sporting Kansas City in the GA Cup Premier Division at 1:30 p.m. ET on April 13.

The Union U13s faced off with Red Bulls as well and will continue to push for more compactness and control of their matches as they allowed more goals into their net than they preferred.

New Bethlehem Steel FC striker Shanyder Borgelin drew the Union U19s even in the 11th minute as they fought to a 1-1 draw with Red Bulls. The U19s now prepare for New England Revolution and PA Classics in early May.
