After clinching their spot in the postseason, Philadelphia Union's duo of Bruno Damiani and Kai Wagner have been named to the latest MLS Team of the Matchday following their standout performances.
Damiani netted the playoff-clinching goal as he wouldn't be denied a floated cross into the box by Milan Iloski and smashed it home.
Damiani becomes the 14th different player from the Union to earn Team of the Matchweek honors joining Markus Anderson (Matchday 19), Andre Blake (Matchday 10), Tai Baribo (Matchday 1, 2 and 13), Bruno Damiani (Matchday 20), Ian Glavinovich (Matchday 5), Jakob Glesnes (Matchday 10), Nathan Harriel (Matchday 13), Milan Iloski (Matchday 30), Jovan Lukic (Matchday 3), Olwethu Makhanya (Matchday 24 and 25), Quinn Sullivan (Matchday 2 and 9), Indiana Vassilev (Matchday 11 and 24) and Kai Wagner (Matchday 3, 16, 30 and 31).
Wagner, the team's 28-year-old left back, earns the honor for the second straight matchday after helping lead the defense on the road to its 11th clean sheet of the season.
Through 76 games played so far this season, Wagner has recorded 10 assists and two goals, becoming the third player in club history to have 70+ goal contributions in Major League Soccer play.
With the road win, the Union continue to hold not only the top spot in the East but remain in the driver's seat for the Supporters' Shield with San Diego (56 points), FC Cincinnati (52 points), Minnesota United (51 points) and Inter Miami CF (11 points behind the Union with four games in hand) all trying to take away the first piece of league silverware.
Philadelphia Union will see eight members depart for the upcoming FIFA International Break before returning to action with its furthest road trip of the season. The Boys in Blue travel to Western Conference foe Vancouver Whitecaps FC for a late night battle on Saturday, Sept. 13 with kick off is set for 9:30PM ET on MLS Season Pass.
