After helping push the Boys in Blue to its fourth-straight victory, Philadelphia Union midfielder Daniel Gazdag has earned a place on Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week for Week 29.
Gazdag earned his third TOTW accolade as he continues his push for not only postseason accolades but even more club records as he scored his 18th goal of the year against rivals New York Red Bulls. With the squad already ahead by a goal, the Hungarian notched home the important second with a second goal. Kai Wagner sent a blast up the pitch to alleviate some pressure and it quickly led to some issues for the Red Bulls backline as Julian Carranza won the ball off the bounce. The forward played a quick one-two combo with Uhre and then fed Gazdag into the box. With Duncan right on his heels, the Hungarian unleashed a left-footed shot from the center of the box that snuck in for his 18th goal to continue the charge for the Golden Boot.
Gazdag is the third Union player in 2022 to be recognized at least three times in the MLS Team of the Week, joining teammates Julian Carranza (4x) and Kai Wagner. Overall 10 players from the Union have appeared on the weekly list along with Head Coach Jim Curtin who earned the award twice including this week.
