Doyle: Sergio Santos is the Union's most important player of 2020

As the 2020 season ticks closer and closer to kick off day on February 29, MLSSoccer.com's Matthew Doyle is looking at which player will be the most important to a club's success in the 25th season of Major League Soccer.

For Philadelphia Union, Doyle had numerous choices but selected forward Sergio Santos. Santos battled injuries in 2019 but made a huge impact on the club when he was healthy with four goals and an assist in 622 minutes of action. In the 2020 preseason, Santos has continued to build upon that strong finish with plays like this says Doyle.

Says Doyle in his article, "Look at how he starts this play on the sideline contesting a header, drifts central, then makes an early, blazing, cross-field run into the gap between the Montreal defenders before sliding it to Kacper Przybylko to slot home. There was no actual lane there until Santos created it with his speed and penetration. This is what the Union are going to have to be if they're going to take a step forward over last season."
