The 2026 FIFA World Cup enters its final group stage matches on Thursday afternoon as the field of 48 will be trimmed to 32 by Saturday night.

Each group's top two teams advance to the Round of 32, as do the top eight third-place finishers for the 

Here's how the 48-team field is taking shape as Group Stage enters their final matchups.

Who's in?

  • Argentina: Group J winner
  • Colombia: Group K
  • France: Group I
  • Germany: Group E winner
  • Mexico: Group A winner
  • Norway: Group I
  • USA: Group D winner

Who's out?

  • Haiti: Group C last place
  • Jordan: Group J last place
  • Panama: Group L last place
  • Tunisia: Group F last place
  • Türkiye: Group D last place

Group Scenarios

Group A

Mexico has won the group and will face a third-place team (from either Group C, E, F, H, or I) in the Round of 32 in Mexico City on June 30.

  • South Korea will advance with a win/draw.
  • Czechia will advance with a win AND a South Korea loss, AND wins the tiebreaker.
  • South Africa will advance with a win AND a Czechia loss/draw.

Group B

This group sees all four still alive ahead of Thursday afternoon's kick off.

  • Canada will advance and win the group with a win/draw.
  • Canada will advance with a loss AND a Bosnia and Herzegovina loss/draw.
  • Switzerland will advance and win the group with a win.
  • Switzerland will advance with a draw.
  • Switzerland will advance with a loss AND a Qatar loss/draw.
  • Qatar will advance with a win AND a Switzerland loss, AND wins the tiebreaker.
  • Qatar will finish third with a win/draw.

Group C

With Brazil, Morocco and Scotland seperated by just a single point, Thursday's group stage finale will be one you won't want to miss.

  • Brazil will advance with a win/draw.
  • Morocco will advance with a win/draw OR a Scotland loss/draw.
  • If both Brazil and Morocco win, the group winner will be determined by goal difference.
  • Scotland will advance with a win.
  • Haiti has been eliminated.

Group D

USA has already advanced and won the group, and will play a third-place team from Group B, E, F, I, or J in Santa Clara on July 1.

  • Australia will advance with a win or draw.
  • Paraguay will advance with a win.
  • Paraguay can advance with a draw in its final match, but it is not guaranteed.
  • Türkiye has been eliminated.

Group E

Germany has won the group and will play a third-place team from Group A, B, C, D, or F in Foxborough on June 29.

  • Ivory Coast will advance with a win or draw.
  • Ecuador will advance with a win AND Ivory Coast loss, AND wins the tiebreaker with Curaçao.
  • Curaçao will advance with a win AND an Ecuador loss/draw.

Group F

The only group on Friday without a locked in team is Group F with the Netherlands, Japan and Sweiden all looking to grab the automatic spots from group play.

  • Netherlands will win the group with a win AND with a Japan loss/draw.
  • Netherlands will advance with a win/draw.
  • Japan wins the group with a win AND a Netherlands loss/draw.
  • Japan advances with a win/draw.
  • Sweden advances with a win.
  • Tunisia has been eliminated.

Group G

Egypt enters the group finale in the drivers seat with four points while Iran and Belgium tied with two points each.

  • Egypt will advance with a win/draw OR Belgium loss/draw.
  • Iran advances with a win OR a draw AND a Belgium draw, AND wins the tiebreaker with Belgium.
  • Belgium advances with a win OR a draw AND an Iran loss, OR a draw AND an Iran draw, AND wins tiebreaker with Iran.
  • New Zealand advances with a win AND an Iran loss/draw.

Group H

Another surprising storyline as Spain enters the final matchday without their knockout stage secured ahead of a showdown with South American giants Uruguay on Friday night.

  • Spain will advance with a win/draw OR a loss AND a Cape Verde loss/draw.
  • Uruguay advances with a win OR a draw AND a Cape Verde draw, AND wins tiebreaker with Cape Verde.
  • Cape Verde advances with a win OR a draw AND an Uruguay loss, OR a draw AND an Uruguay draw, and wins tiebreaker with Uruguay.
  • Saudi Arabia advances with a win AND an Uruguay loss/draw.

Group I

The only group with two teams already locked into the knockout round,  Friday afternoon's matches will have teams on the third-place bubble watching.

  • France and Norway have advanced.
  • France will win the group with a win/draw.
  • Norway will win the group with a win.
  • Senegal will advance with a win, but it is not guaranteed.
  • Senegal is eliminated with a loss.
  • Iraq can advance with a win, but it is not guaranteed.
  • Iraq will be eliminated with a draw/loss.

Group J

With the defending champions Argentina already through, the battle for group's automatic qualifier is still to be determined between Austia and Algeria in the final Grouop stage matches of the tournament.

  • Argentina has won the group and will face the runner-up of Group H in Miami on July 3.
  • Austria will advance with a win or draw; in a draw, the runner-up will be decided by tiebreakers.
  • Algeria will advance with a win or draw; in a draw, the runner-up will be decided by tiebreakers.
  • Jordan has been eliminated.

Group K

All four teams will enter Saturday's matchups still 

  • Colombia has advanced.
  • Colombia will win the group with a win.
  • Portugal will advance with a win or draw, and will win the group with a win.
  • Uzbekistan can advance with a win, but it is not guaranteed.
  • DR Congo can advance with a win, but it is not guaranteed.

Group L

Saturday kicks off with Group L with three teams viaing for the the automatic spots to the Round of 32.

  • England will advance with a win/draw.
  • England will win the group with a win AND a Ghana draw/loss.
  • Ghana will advance with a win/draw.
  • Ghana will win the group with a win AND an England draw/loss.
  • Panama has been eliminated.
