Philadelphia Union announced today that Jamiro Monteiro has received an international call-up for Cape Verde ahead of 2022 World Cup Qualifier matches. The midfielder is part of seven call-ups in September which include Andre Blake, Cory Burke and Alvas Powell (Jamaica), Olivier Mbaizo (Cameroon), Daniel Gazdag (Hungary) and Jose Martinez (Venezuela).

Monteiro joins the Cape Verde National ahead of the second round of the FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers. Monteiro previously called up in March ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Monteiro has earned 10 caps for Cape Verde, nine in Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches and one in an International Friendly. Cape Verde will face Central African Republic on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 9:00 a.m. and Nigeria on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 12:00 p.m.
